Concert Violinist

As a concert violinist, Duane’s music making offers a unique perspective on a venerable old instrument. A master of many musical styes, he can be heard playing Mozart with a symphony or a string quartet, blowing through jazz standards with a jazz trio, or even exploring the avante-guarde with an experimental Hip-Hop Funk band. Approaching the instrument with a deep, emotional sincerity and technical virtuosity rarely found in the Hawaii, he never fails to leave audiences spellbound.

Classically trained, he earned Bachelors Degrees in both music and Psychology from Northwestern University and a Masters Degree in Music from Yale University. His principal teachers include, Idell Low, Gerardo Ribeiro, and Syoko Aki. He has studied chamber music with such illustrious groups as the Vermeer String Quartet, The Borodin String Quartet,The Ying String Quartet, The Tokyo String Quartet, and The Colorado String Quartet.
As a chamber musician and soloist, he recently performed with the Oahu Civic Orchestra performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante (2008). As a founding member of The Gemini Duo, he earned places on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts Performing Artist Roster(2001). The Duo also won a place on the Artist Roster of Chamber Music America's Rural Residencies Program (2000) and was a semi-finalist in the 1998 Concert Artists Guild Competition in New York City. He has performed as a soloist with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and the National Repertoire Orchestra. His community outreach activities have been funded by grants from the AFM's Musicians Trust Fund and Yale University's Performance Outreach Fund. An accomplished orchestral musician, Duane has been a member of the Touring Company of Disney’s “The Lion King”, The Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, and the New Haven Symphony Orchestra.
